September is apple month in first grade! We've learned so much about this tasty fruit (see the Photo Gallery for more pictures of our apples investigations). To finish our apple unit, we just had to make some yummy applesauce!
We liked the book Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. In this book, one child thinks the animal is a duck. The other child thinks the animal is a rabbit. What do you think? Is it a rabbit or a duck?
To finish up our week with The Three Little Pigs, the first graders performed a reader's theater. There are three different groups, and they each did a super job!
We read Mr. Gumpy's Outing by John Burningham. In this book, everyone wants to get on the boat but Mr. Gumpy does not want the boat to tip. Read this book to find out what happens! Let us know what you think!
We have just finished reading and comparing three versions of The Three Little Pigs. During interactive writing, our class created this mural.

Happy Rhyme Time Week! We have been reading and writing lots of silly rhymes this week. One book we really love is There's A Wocket In My Pocket! by Dr. Seuss. We loved it so much we decided to write our own version. It is not done yet, but here is a sneak peak!
There's a zarpet on our carpet. (by Hallie)
There's a habel at the table. (by Jesse)
There's a vurple vayon using my purple crayon! (by Amy)
I can't wait to see the illustrations!
We liked Listen Buddy by Helen Lester, and we think you will like it too. In this book, Buddy is not a very good listener. He ends up turning the wrong way and meets a Scruffy Varmint. Leave us a note and tell us what you think of this book.
